The article addresses the relationship between the historical and the psychological within the moral reflections of Carlos Vaz Ferreira. In this context, it can be seen that the Uruguayan philosopher used to juxtapose both areas by stating that the historical accumulation of socially available moral ideals went hand in hand with a certain expansion of subjective moral consciousness and sensibility. On this matter, the article argues, in the first place, that today it would be necessary to incorporate between both spheres a third one, of a sociological nature, that can explain how the historical and the psychological aspects of the moral are (or are not) connected in order to maintain their plausibility, and second, that in doing so, Vaz provides us with a theoretical approach “to take into account” when analyzing late modern phenomena such as “time famine”.
